Lip balms

If you know me, you know there’s one thing I wouldn’t be caught dead leaving the house without -- lip balm. I’ve been an avid fan for as long as I can remember (who can forget those Lip Smacker days?) but my taste has matured a little bit since then.

I’ve tried pretty much everything from drug store staples to high end beauty brands, and have come up with a pretty definitive list of favourites. I’m partial to lightweight and easy-to-apply balms for daytime, while a rich lip mask is essential for my evening skincare routine.

My go-to lip balms fluctuate throughout the time of year and levels of dryness, but I alway stick to a few select products that I know and love. Check out my top picks for the best lip balms at every price point, and let us know your go-to lip product in the comments below.

EOS Visibly Soft Lip Balm Sphere

This affordable lip balm’s spherical shape makes it easy to fish out from the bottom of any handbag, and provides lightweight moisture along with a sweet scent.

Promising review: “Love the smell and the balm in general! Great price and used them as stocking stuffers for Christmas.”

Hurraw Balm Lemon Lip Balm

An all-natural, vegan lip balm that comes in dozens of flavours? I’m sold. Although scents range from classic (cherry, peppermint) to out there (root beer, earl grey), I’m a fan of the fresh lemon flavour.

Promising review: “So yummy! Love the lemony scent, super natural and goes on very smooth.”

Burt's Bees Beeswax 100% Natural Lip Balm

This classic beeswax lip balm is a cult favourite for a reason. It hydrates dry lips with Vitamin E and coconut oil, and leaves behind a pleasant tingling sensation thanks to peppermint essential oil.

Promising review: “This is the only lip balm I have used for over a decade. Cannot live without it. It's thick and stays put. The menthol feeling when applied is divine. Try it.”

Glossier Balm Dotcom

I’m currently working my way through both the mint and the rose-scented Balm Dotcom, keeping one at my desk and one in my purse at all times. This thick balm really works on lips as well as on cuticles, and with over 1,700 positive reviews it’s a Glossier best-seller for a reason.

Promising review: “This product smells amazing!! Not only that, but it deeply moisturizes your lips and cuticles without leaving that heavy and clumpy feeling. Perfect formula!”

Tarte Lip Facial Lip Scrub - Sea Collection

This two in one lip product exfoliates and moisturizes all in an easy-to-use stick applicator. Sugar granules slough away dead skin while a hydrating blend of shea butter, beeswax and coconut oil leave behind soft and kissable lips.

Promising review: “Would definitely recommend this product! I love that it exfoliates your lips but also feels like if you’ve applied chapstick afterwards leaving your lips feeling soft and hydrated. It’s a good product to use before applying lipstick.”

The original Lip Sleeping Mask from Laniege is ideal for when you want intense hydration for dry lips. The nourishing formula contains hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and leaves you with ultra-soft lips by morning.

Promising review: “This sleeping mask is the only lip product that has given me visible results. My lips are soft, supple, and hydrated all day long after a night's use. I've stopped using lip balms or chapstick all together.”

With more than 160,000 “Loves” on Sephora’s website alone, this lip mask by Canadian beauty brand Bite has become a staple in my nighttime routine. A little goes a long way thanks to its rich formulation made with organic agave to smooth and hydrate lips.
