The anticipated 'A Quiet Place' prequel will be released this summer
The anticipated A Quiet Place prequel is upon us.
As the title suggests, the prequel film takes place on the very first day extraterrestrial creatures came to Earth and unleashed absolute chaos in New York City, attacking any source of noise.
Plans for the upcoming movie were first announced in November 2020, and more details have been trickling in since, including the star-studded cast.
Ahead, here’s everything to know about the new movie.
Who is starring in A Quiet Place: Day One?
The film features star including Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O'Hare. According to Entertainment Weekly, Nyong'o plays a character named Sam who is on “a day trip to New York City when the monsters arrive.” As chaos ensues, she is “thrown together with a man named Eric” (played by Quinn) with whom she decides to pair up in order to survive.
Will Emily Blunt and John Krasinski be in A Quiet Place: Day One?
Seeing that this new film takes place in a completely different setting than the first two films, it’s unlikely that Blunt and Krasinski’s characters will make cameos.
However, Hounsou, who appeared in A Quiet Place Part II does reprise his role as “Man on the Island” who helped a small group of survivors in the 2020 sequel.
“It was really lovely to have him be in the film and to carry the legacy of the previous film,” Nyong’o told EW about the A Quiet Place veteran. When asked if we’ll learn the real name of Hounsou’s character, she simply replied: “Well, let's just say that this film will satisfy many.”
What is A Quiet Place: Day One about?
The exact plotline of the film hasn’t been announced, but as the recent trailer shows, the film largely focuses on how several different characters in New York City responded to the monsters’ attack on Earth.
Quinn tells EW the film is much more of an escape movie rather than a survival story. “It’s more of a [character] drama than anything,” Quinn told the publication. “The script is obviously set in the world that we know, but it's very much a film about these two characters who are lost and trying to negotiate their fates. There are also some wonderful other characters in the film who Sam encounters, but the bulk of it is Eric and Sam in their mutual acceptance of this bleak, more quiet, new reality.”
Nyong’o points out that the main difference between this film and the previous A Quiet Place movies is that it’s not about a family who sticks together.
“We don't have that in this film,” she explained. “We have these disparate individuals who collide into each other's lives, and it is at a very pivotal time for the world. How do they negotiate survival together? What we get is really interesting — and even surprising — chemistry in the characters that meet each other along the way.”
Who is directing A Quiet Place: Day One?
Though Krasinski directed the previous A Quiet Place movies, this new film will be helmed by Michael Sarnoski, who is best known for directing the 2021 film Pig starring Nicolas Cage.
Who is writing A Quiet Place: Day One?
Though Krasinski won’t be putting his directing cap back on for this movie, he was still involved in the prequel. The new story was developed by Krasinski and Sarnoski, with a screenplay written by Sarnoski.
Is there a trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One?
In February 2024, Paramount Pictures debuted the first trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One, which showcases how Nyong'o, Wolff, Hounsou and Quinn’s characters struggled to survive the initial onslaught after the lethal, sound-hating creatures appeared.
When will A Quiet Place: Day One be released?
A Quiet Place: Day One is set to be released in theaters on June 28.
Will there be A Quiet Place Part III?
Even after the release of A Quiet Place: Day One, fans have more A Quiet Place stories to look forward to. A Quiet Place Part III was announced in February 2022 and is slated to be released in 2025.
It will serve as a direct sequel to A Quiet Place Part II, however, plot details have been kept tightly under wraps.
