A family spanning six generations of women, separated by 98 years from oldest to youngest, are celebrating the 100th birthday of their great-great-great grandma.

With almost 100 years between Rose Sharp and her great-great-great granddaughter, Amelia, – the family from Kent, are thrilled to be able to mark the milestone birthday all together.

Mother-of-eight Rose is head of a huge family and has an incredible 92 grandchildren including her great-great-great descendants.

Great-granddaughter Joanne Pendrigh, 43, says Rose is a really strong woman who, having been widowed for more than 40 years, is fiercely independent.

“My great gran Rose is an amazing woman," Joanne says. "She is right at the top of our family tree and she is a really strong role model for us all. A true matriarch.

“She is as sharp as they come, she has seen it all, done it all and takes it all in her stride.”

“It does get confusing with so many of us,” Joanne says.

“I have tried to find other families with six living generations but I think we are quite rare.”

The family have planned a garden party to celebrate Rose's birthday and are excited to reunite after lockdown.

“Rose loved receiving her telegram from the Queen and the family bought her flowers and gifts," Joanne says.

“But her most precious gift is to be able to finally spend quality time together again as a family and for Rose to spend time with Amelia as she has grown so quickly over the last year.

“During lockdown we tried to keep in touch as much as possible but with Rose’s age we couldn’t visit so it will be great for us to spend some time with her again.

“We are a close knit family and we try to get together as often as possible and we want to celebrate her life."

Though Rose didn’t manage to master FaceTime during lockdown, she does have a mobile which the family think is very impressive for a 100-year-old.

“It’s amazing that from one woman so many families and lives have been created and we all have so much to thank her for,” Joanne adds.
