This famous burger joint from New York opens first Florida restaurant in Miami

Another New York import has made its way to Miami, this time with burgers, beer and over-the-top milkshakes you can order at a milkshake ventanita.

Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, founded by husband-and-wife team Chris Barish and Julie Mulligan, has opened its first Florida restaurant in Brickell City Centre, a move Mulligan said the brand has wanted to do for “quite some time.”

The couple first opened the restaurant in a tiny, 15-seat spot in New York’s SoHo neighborhood in 2015. Since then, the brand has expanded across the country, with locations at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, at Downtown Disney District in Disneyland in Anaheim and in Nashville and Dallas.

It has also crossed the Atlantic, with locations in Geneva, Zurich, Singapore and Dubai — and plans to open in London as well.

The Miami version of Black Tap is 6,000 square feet on the fourth floor of the Brickell mall, with enough seats indoors and outside to seat 200 diners. Inside, you’ll find the restaurant’s signature “boombox” booth, under a mural by New York street artist Fumero.

As for the burgers, which have won several best burger awards at the New York City Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash event over the years, they’re cooked on a griddle, not a grill, and served with two slices of cheese on a potato roll. Some of the favorites include The Champ, a wagyu burger with buttermilk dill, blue cheese and arugula and The Texan Burger with cheddar, bacon, onion rings and barbecue sauce.

Miami will have its own special burgers, too, including a Frita Cubana Burger with sofrito butter and shoestring frites, as well as a black bean burger with salsa verde, charred corn and pickled onions.

The menu also includes Korean BBQ wings, crispy Brussels sprouts and Ever Haze IPA shrimp. There are several salads on the menu, too, including It’s Not So Jennifer, which references Jennifer Aniston’s viral salad with kale, quinoa, vegan feta, cucumbers, onion, pistachios, lemon zest and red wine vinaigrette.

Beer is a big draw, too, and Black Tap will feature some local craft brews from Biscayne Bay Brewery and Tripping Animals. There’s also a cocktail menu with drinks like Beach Cowboy (rye, hazelnut orgeat, pineapple, lemon and angostura) and Glamour & Vice (tequila, passionfruit and vanilla).

The stars of the beverage menu, though, are the CrazyShake milkshakes like The CakeShake (made with cake batter); The Cinnamon Bun (topped with a cinnamon roll); and Strawberry Shortcake (topped with a strawberry shortcake ice cream bar). The restaurant has also partnered with Derek Kaplan of Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop for a limited-edition Key Lime Pie shake with a slice of pie on top. You can order them through a special to-go window.
