Fashion Girls, Rejoice! These Man Repeller Shoes Are Unique, Fun, and Just Quirky Enough

When Leandra Medine of Man Repeller dons a look, you better sit up and pay attention. Medine has a way of making trends that are not for the basic happen. Her unique sense of style has made her a street-style favorite, and now everyone has the chance to be in her shoes, literally! Today Medine’s 10-piece shoe collection called MR by Man Repeller launches exclusively with Net-a-Porter. The styles have all been cleverly given names such as the “I’m Here to Party Boot” and the “LOL If You Think I’m Walking Sandal,” and, yes, they are as fun as they sound!
We caught up with Medine to ask her about the collection and what she thinks would be the must-have items for fall now that we’ve got the footwear covered!
Yahoo Style: The Man Repeller brand has a very niche, editorial point of view — how did you create a collection that’s fun yet relatable for a wider audience?
Leandra Medine: I don’t think the Man Repeller brand has to be niche — the appeal is for all women who don’t want to be or feel alone. Maybe the audience is still quite small, and the point of view is certainly quite editorial, but I don’t think that beholds us to niche-ness. I will say the same about the shoes — they are definitely quite particular, but my hope is that because all of the silhouettes are common, easy to recognize, and might in fact already exist in the wardrobes of prospective customers, they will be welcomed warmly due to their color and fabric and those really fun studs.
YS: The boots have a certain Ziggy Stardust feel to them; did you have Bowie in mind when you were designing?
LM: Maybe subconsciously!
YS: If these are the must-have shoes for fall this year, what else is your must-have item for fall?
LM: I hate to speak in terms of must-have because everyone is different, so I’ll just say identity is a must-have for fall. Know who you are so you know what you like and that will make smart shopping much easier.
