A father of five has made a T-shirt pleading for help after waiting years for a kidney donation. Wearing the shirt to Disney World, Robert Leibowitz had his photo captured by a fellow theme park goer who later shared the picture on Facebook, making it go viral.
“I am a single dad. I love [my kids] more than anything in the world and they are my rocket fuel,” He told WFTV. “That’s what keeps me going.” Leibowitz was accompanied by his children at Disney World when he wore the T-shirt calling for help.
Rocio Yanira Sandoval was with her husband Juan when they spotted the dad and decided to approach him. She described their meeting: “Juan asked if we could snap a picture to share online, this man turned around with the biggest smile, so grateful and said ‘Yes, please!’ He gave us both a hug and said ‘Thank you, please share this with the world.’”
Sandoval who only has about 260 friends on Facebook wasn’t expecting the post to go viral, but once the picture hit the public forum it exploded in the best possible way — it’s been shared close to 90,000 times with at least 14,000 people having liked or responded to it.
Best of all, Leibowitz says he’s received more than 200 texts from people who are blood type O Positive and want to see if they’re eligible to donate their kidney.
“The response has been absolutely amazing. I get very emotional about it,” Leibowitz said. “Over a million people have seen it already, and the calls keep coming in … from all over the country, which is amazing.”
Having suffered kidney problems since his pre-teens, Leibowitz’s main concern is to become a healthy adult so he can spend as much time with his children as possible.
