If you fall for the stereotype that millennials don’t hustle, think again — this week, Inc. Magazine released its “30 Under 30” list, and four female entrepreneurs were honored with the title for their successful businesses in the food industry. Honorees include Lisa Q. Fetterman of Nomiku, Chloe Coscarelli and Samantha Wasser of By Chloe, and Katlin Smith of Simple Mills.
Lisa Q. Fetterman of Nomiku
Nomiku is a sous-vide company that started when Fetterman built a cooker with her future husband, Abe, according to Inc. Fetterman says that the company initially catered to friends, but has since expanded to “professionals and food fanatics.” The Nomiku, which was founded in 2012, is now backed by Shark Tank.
Chloe Coscarelli and Samantha Wasser of By Chloe
The fast-casual vegan joint By Chloe was founded in 2015 by Chloe Coscarelli and Samantha Wasser. The restaurant has a cult following despite only being in business for two years and has racked up $10 million in revenue during 2016 alone. Although Coscarelli has since parted ways with the brand, By Chloe continues to grow and cater to health-conscious millennials in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and soon, Providence, Rhode Island.
Katlin Smith of Simple Mills
Smith, also considered the “new-age Betty Crocker,” founded Simple Mills in 2013 to reinvent the baking scene with natural products including flax seed, coconut sugar, and almond flour. She was inspired to create the company after noticing the difference in cutting out processed foods and sugar from her diet after experiencing joint paint. Now, the company provides products free of gluten, grain, soy, or GMOs.
