Florals Are Trending in January? Groundbreaking.

Although the weather lately has been nothing short of wet, cold, and dreary, it seems that many shoppers are actually looking to bypass their winter gear in favor of something lighter — like a floral dress.

Typically, floral print has been reserved for the spring (but don’t take our word for it — take Miranda Priestly's), but it seems the tides are turning. According to Polyvore, searches for floral-embroidered dresses rose a staggering 912 percent since this time last year, while floral maxi dresses increased by 23 percent, floral jackets by 37 percent, and floral maxi skirts by 24 percent. (This data was measured between November 2016 and January 2017 and is compared to stats over the same period in 2015.)

And looking at the runways, florals have always been a consistent trend over many seasons, spotted at major shows like Vetements, Balenciaga, and Prada.

Shoppers are either preparing for tropical getaways or they're looking to brighten up their usual bleak, monochromatic outfits during this depressing season. But the truth is, floral dresses can absolutely be worn during the winter. You just need to make sure to layer up. Pair your dress with stockings and booties, add on a cozy knit cardigan, shearling winter coat, and cute winter accessories like a pom-pom beanie and fur stole and you're set to go!
