Apparently Women Are Just As Bad As Men When It Comes To Forgetting Wedding Anniversaries

Everyone loves a good wedding. Whether an intimate affair with a handful of guests or an elaborate celebration to rival a Royal Wedding, they are always filled with excitement, happiness and love. And plenty of champagne.

It should be a day to remember, obviously, and a bit like dogs and Christmas, marriage lasts more than just one day. But for some, it seems, the momentous day is one that’s easily forgotten.

In a recent US based survey by Laguna Pearl, it was said that women are just as bad as men when it comes to forgetting wedding anniversaries, although men are proving to still be the biggest culprits with 1 in 3 confessing that the date slipped their mind.

When asked why the anniversary of their all-so big day was forgotten, 15% of women explained that it simply wasn’t important to them, in comparison to their male counterpart where 12% had the same attitude.

Considering the time and effort both bride and groom (more so the bride) put into ensuring their wedding day is as magical and as memorable as can be, why then is one of the most important dates of the year easily forgotten?

Well, according to the report the top five reasons are:

  1. Losing track of what day it is that week (Lame)

  2. Being too busy to remember (Understandable, but still lame)

  3. Work getting in the way (Priorities!)

  4. Forgetting the date (Really?)

  5. It not being important (Time to call the divorce lawyer?)

Based on the report, then, it seems that work and the frantic pace of everyday life are to blame for most married couples forgetting the date of their anniversary. Whilst it’s mildly understandable, showing appreciation to your other half and celebrating the special date is a great way to reconnect and take time out from hectic schedules.

So here are my top tips to ensure you show your appreciation for your other half:

1) Date night: Whether it’s once a week or once a month, it’s important to do something fun for just the two of you. Why not book a table at your spouse’s favourite restaurant for drinks and dinner?

2) Surprises: From time to time treat your other half to a little gift. Whilst it doesn’t have to be expensive, consider a meaningful gift or a little something you know they’ve had their eye on.

3) The ‘L’ word: Say I love you. Often. It’s easy to forget to tell your partner exactly how you feel. But telling them you love them will always put a smile on their face.

Of course, if you are married one way to show appreciation for your other half is to make an effort to remember you wedding anniversary, and for some real brownie points have it well planned in advance. As a result of the survey, the team at Laguna Pearl have in fact created a ‘reminder service’ where spouses can be signed up to, and when the date approaches, they will be given a gentle e-nudge with gift suggestions. Or you can set a reminder in your phone, jot it down in your diary, but whatever you do, don’t forget the day you tied the knot.
