Former Patriots star Asante Samuel to Lamar Jackson: 'You don't want to play for Bill Belichick'

Asante Samuel was a four-time Pro Bowler for how he defended passes in the NFL.

His latest block is in hopes of protecting Lamar Jackson from going to the New England Patriots and playing under Bill Belichick.

"Lamar Jackson, my brother trust me you don’t want to play for Belichick," Samuel posted Thursday on Twitter.

Jackson revealed on Monday that he requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month shortly before the team placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him. Jackson was drafted by Baltimore in 2018 and was the unanimous 2019 NFL MVP. He is serving as his own agent.

While teams have been free to sign Jackson to an offer sheet since March 7, New England is apparently off the table as of Wednesday, with The Athletic reporting that the Patriots are among the teams that have opted against a pursuit of the two-time Pro Bowl selection.

Samuel spent the first five seasons of his career with the Patriots and won two Super Bowls under the future Hall of Fame coach. The four-time Pro Bowler has been vocal in his criticism of Belichick, saying that quarterback Tom Brady was the real reason New England won six championships.

In a February interview with Betway Insider, Samuel said Belichick created a negative environment for the team despite their winning ways.

"It was not a good experience. People think we won, and that was great, but when we lost, the players would be depressed and down," he said. "I remember one day vividly. We won the game, but he cussed everybody out after the game. Everybody's walking around with their head down, and I'm like, 'What the hell is wrong with you? Pick your head up. Don’t let this man take you down. We just won.'"

He also called Belichick "just another everyday coach" for not winning a Super Bowl since Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. The Patriots missed the playoffs last year.
