Fort Worth gang unit investigates after man critically wounded in shooting on Loop 820

A man who was a passenger in a car was shot in the head on Loop 820 early Monday morning in Fort Worth.

Just before 4 a.m., East Division officers were dispatched to the northbound lanes of the East Loop 820 South service road and Grayson Street, police said in a news release.

A witness, who was driving the car, told police that he and the victim had been traveling northbound on East Loop 820 South just north of Texas 287. They heard a gun being fired from a nearby vehicle. The witness exited the East Berry off ramp, striking a road sign and then a fence enclosing a commercial building before his car stopped just to the north of Grayson Street. He then realized that his passenger had suffered a gunshot wound to his head.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The witness was also taken to the hospital in good condition for injuries sustained in the collision.

There was no suspect in custody Monday morning. Police said the gang unit is investigating the shooting.
