Kurt Cobain's legacy in music is unmatched. Few artists have had the impact on the industry that he did in such a short time. And his memory lives on through his daughter with Courtney Love, Frances Bean Cobain, who has become quite the fashion darling.

Monday, Feb. 20, would have been the musician's 50th birthday, and his daughter took to Instagram to post a tribute to her late father. Though she was just a baby when he died in April 1994, it's clear that connection and love was, and always will be, very real. "Today would have been your 50th birthday," the message's caption read. "You are loved and you are missed. Thank you for giving me the gift of life. Forever your daughter, Frances Bean Cobain."

A few hours later, Cobain shared an equally moving text from her grandmother, talking about her father and how thankful she is to have her grandmother in her life. "I know he is thankful that you raised me to be as strong and compassionate as you are," she told her "one and only grams." Here's her grandmother's statement in response: "What beautiful words from his beloved daughter." She continues, "He would be so 'smugly' proud of you, saying 'Hey that's MY daughter.'" It doesn't get much sweeter than that.
