A new coronavirus vaccine is here, and with it new hope that the pandemic may soon come to an end—but what is the Johnson&Johnson vaccine, and why does it require just one dose, and is it as effective as the ones from Moderna and Pfizer? Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, just released a new video explaining all the ins and outs. Read on for the highlights—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus. 1 Would Dr. Fauci Take the Vaccine Himself? “I would definitely take the Johnson and Johnson vaccine,” says Fauci. “This is a vaccine that works and it only requires one dose.” “I can tell you, I have been fully vaccinated with one that was available,” he said on CNN’s State of the Union. “It was the Moderna. If I were not vaccinated now, and I had a choice of getting a J&J vaccine now or waiting for another vaccine, I would take whatever vaccine would be available to me as quickly as possible for the simple reason of…we want to get as many people vaccinated as quickly and as expeditiously as possible. So this is good news because we have another very good vaccine in the mix.” 2 How Does It Work In Just One Dose? “The Johnson and Johnson vaccine uses a particular what we call a vaccine platform and you inject it into the body. The body sees that protein makes a good immune response against the entire virus.” 3 Does the COVID Vaccine Give You COVID? “The COVID vaccine doesn't give you COVID because it's not the virus. It’s just one protein from the virus that induces your body to make a good response against the whole virus.” 4 I’ve Heard the Vaccine Isn’t as Effective as Others It’s true that the vaccine was 72% effective in preventing moderate to severe cases in the United States, lower than the 95% efficacy rate for Pfizer and Moderna. But Fauci says: “Tested in the United States, it's 72% effective in preventing you from getting moderate to severe disease, but virtually a hundred percent protective against hospitalizations and death as proven by this trial that was done.”RELATED: If You Feel This You May Have Already Had COVID Says Dr. Fauci 5 How to Avoid Getting COVID-19 So follow Fauci’s fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don’t travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.

Have you ever gotten butterflies in your stomach or heard bad news and felt it in your gut? For many years, health experts have been adamant about the brain-gut connection—the concept that your emotions and brain activity can influence what goes on with your digestive system. Now, new research has established a link between the gut and one of the most common mental health conditions: depression. Read on to learn about it—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus. New Study Finds Genetic Relationship Between Stomach Ulcers and DepressionA new study published in the journal Nature Communications has established a genetic relationship between stomach ulcers and depression. More specifically, people who suffer from psychiatric disorders, including major depression, are more susceptible to peptic ulcer disease. “While a causal relationship cannot be confirmed between major depression and digestion related disorders (or vice versa), consideration of clinical implications of a possible relationship is justified,” the researchers write in the study. “When treating patients with [major depression], awareness of the digestion symptoms for [peptic ulcer disease] could help to decide if further interventions are needed.”Professor Naomi Wray and Dr. Yeda Wu from the Institute for Molecular Bioscience believe that their findings could promote a more holistic approach to treating the condition. “As a medical student, I noticed how some patients’ gastrointestinal symptoms improved after psychotherapy or psychiatry treatment,” Dr Wu said in a press release. “This study linking major depression with an increased risk of gastrointestinal disorders also explains the co-morbidity of the conditions.”The researchers studied health data from 456,327 individuals from the UK Biobank, identifying eight genetic variations associated with the risk of getting peptic ulcer disease. “Six of the eight variations can be linked to why some people are more prone to H. pylori infection, which would make them more susceptible to peptic ulcer disease,” Professor Wray explained. Professor Wray continued to explain that while existing peptic ulcer treatment targets the gene linked to one of these genetic variations, identification of other associated genes could offer opportunities to develop new treatments.RELATED: Dr. Fauci Just Said When We'd Get Back to NormalHow to Stay Stress-Free During This PandemicOne of the best ways to maintain your health during the pandemic is by following Dr. Anthony Fauci’s fundamentals, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don’t travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
