George Clooney says he'll be 'out of it' by the time his daughter starts dating as he and Hoda Kotb bond over being older parents

Ticket to Paradise stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts opened up about the realities of parenting and having children later in life in an interview with Hoda Kotb for the Today show.

Clooney, 61, who shares 5-year-old twins Ella and Alexander with wife Amal, joked that instead of worrying about being around for when his children hit certain milestones as an older parent, he's excited to be too old to be coherent.

"I kind of like the idea of being sort of out of it when my daughter starts to date," Clooney said, before mimicking a confused, older version of himself responding to his daughter bringing home a date.

"Papa I want you to meet...he's a drummer in a band. 'Huh? I like toast,'" he joked. "I'm OK."

Roberts, who was in her thirties when she welcomed her own set of twins, Phinnaeus and Hazel,17, in 2004 and welcomed her son, Henry, in 2007, shared her perspective on age and divine timing in parenting.

"The truth is, no matter how old we are — George being the oldest of us — [the kids] have chosen us in this moment to be their stewards and their shepherds in this life experience. I met [my husband] when I was ready. You met Amal when you were ready. It's like we call these children into our lives when we're ready to best partner with them," she said.

Roberts admitted that while "sometimes I get gripped with fear of blowing it," other times she's fine with owning her mistakes.
