In most of our minds, the pairing of Prince Harry and Hollywood actress Meghan Markle is the epitome of modern romance and their upcoming nuptials will signal the start of a lifetime of happiness for the pair.

But for feminist icon and author Germaine Greer, the outlook is far bleaker.

Speaking on Australian TV show ‘60 Minutes’, the 78-year-old weighed in Meghan’s new role, saying she thinks she’ll succumb to boredom.

“She will see vistas of boredom that are unbelievable,” Greer says.

“I think the pressure to escape from the firm is crushing.”

When the host asked her what she thinks the prospects are for Prince Harry and Meghan, Greer said: “I think she’ll bolt… she bolted before. She was out the door.”

The feminist writer was referring to Meghan’s first marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson, who she divorced in 2013 after two years of marriage.

“I hope in a way she bolts. But maybe she’ll take Harry with her.”

“She will be seen as an adjunct to him,” she said.

Viewers were understandably annoyed at the cynical take and took to Twitter to vent.

But it didn’t end at just a few comments about Meghan leaving Harry.

When asked why the successful actress would give up her life and career if not for true love, the feminist author cheekily suggested it was to do with money.

“Why would a girl born in poverty marry a man with 53 million quid? I can’t think of single reason,” she said.

“Well because she expects to have a good time. She probably is in love with him. He’s glamorous despite having red hair.”

We’re just going to pretend we never heard that and revert back to our happy place where Harry and Meghan are a beacon of true love.
