At first glance, Kate Middleton, British duchess and style icon, and Gina Haspel, who will be the United States’ first female CIA director — are total opposites. But the women share an obvious love for Michael Kors.

Both Middleton, 36, and Haspel, 61, got style bloggers buzzing when they stepped out wearing the exact same dress: a $175 red-white-and-blue belted floral-print crepe midi dress by the designer.

On Thursday, Middleton was photographed wearing the frock on her way to Windsor Castle to attend a rehearsal for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday. On social media, there was speculation that Middleton wore the American designer as a tribute to Markle, who is from Los Angeles.

And Haspel, a former undercover spy who on Thursday was confirmed as the first female director of the Central Intelligence Agency, wore the dress on May 7 to attend meetings in Washington, D.C.

Over on Twitter, the dress — and the stylish instincts of both women — were discussed.

Haspel’s style has been analyzed in reference to her résumé — she’s worked for the CIA since 1985 in a variety of undercover and more visible positions, and her role in the torture of prisoners in Thailand has earned her a tough reputation.

As Racked noted of Haspel’s dress, “The look telegraphed femininity — a fitting thing to underscore, given that Haspel was to become the first female director of the CIA — and approachability, insofar as women are presumed to be nonthreatening. With her tidy shoulder-length brown hair and glasses, Haspel easily could have passed for a college professor on her way to teach a Chaucer seminar.”

However, one dress is likely the place where similarities between Haspel and Middleton end — unless style bloggers feel inspired.
