The new year has barely started, but awards season is officially underway. The 77th annual Golden Globes may not have nominated
a slate of puzzling films and zero female directors, but on the bright side, several award-winners do traditionally give speeches while drunk.
But regardless of the quality of the awards, we always have the outfits.
Since we all know the red carpet is the best part of nearly any awards show, here are the biggest, best and most memorable outfits from the Golden Globes red carpet.
Taylor Swift This pattern is lovely, but the bold pattern and especially the stomach cut-out feel a little out of place. Billly Porter NATURALLY, BILLY PORTER WORE A LONG FEATHERED TRAIN. Billy Porter .....and that's the back view. Michelle Williams The asymmetrical sleeves look a little off-kilter, but the colours are beautiful together. Saoirse Ronan Disco ball chic. Gwyneth Paltrow If you're ever tempted to follow Goop's advice, look back at this photo and think about whether or not this person deserves your trust. Charlize Theron There's so much going on here, none of it great. Natasha Lyonne Effortlessly cool, as per usual. Jodie Comer This emerald colour is to die for, and the oversized cut is weirdly charming. Zoë Kravitz On anyone else, this would be overkill. But Zoë Kravitz pulls it off. Cate Blanchett This is... confusing. Pastel with metal and jewels? Fan sleeves connecting the bust to the back? She might have had more luck sticking with just one concept. Phoebe Waller-Bridge How. Is she this perfect. All the time?!? Rose Leslie Very art deco in a way that's super appealing. But we'd love to see her hair down — that colour would look incredible with this emerald dress. Shailene Woodley The bottom says Studio 54, the necklace (?) says $5 jewelry from a homemade stand on the Jersey shore. Rooney Mara This hairstyle doesn't exactly speak to sound judgment, unless the hair is a tribute to Carrie Fisher, somehow? Kerry Washington Oh, Kerry. Why? And also... how? Reese Witherspoon Who wore it best: Reese or Gillian Anderson? Jennifer Lopez Is this a nice dress? It is not. But is J.Lo memorable? More than anyone else. Helen Mirren Bless Helen Mirren for bringing the 💃emoji to life. Jennifer Aniston This gown has a lovely and graceful silhouette. But at this point in her career, isn't it time for Jennifer Aniston to take some bigger risks? Nicholas Braun Cousin Greg of "Succession," coming to rescue the red carpet from boring suits! Winnie Harlow If this style of 1920s dress becomes a thing in the 2020s, we're not complaining. Olivia Colman Thank you to the legendary Olivia Colman for not being afraid of bold sleeves. Beanie Feldstein Ana de Armas vibes! The headband is a little much, but the dress is gorgeous and she looks amazing. Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres Those of us still mad at Ellen for those George W. Bush photos have to at least soften a little at this double-suit combo. Margot Robbie The two pieces of this dress don't feel entirely cohesive, for some reason? Points for pockets, though. Roman Griffin Davis Tomato-coloured suede is perfectly appropriate for a child actor. The fact that he talked about the thrill of kicking Hitler in the balls? Even better. Anna Paquin She only has seven words in "The Irishman," but this dress — and that facial expression — communicate a lot. Carol Burnett This is absolutely the right outfit to wear when you're 86 and a legend who has a major award named after you. So sparkly but also so comfortable! Kirsten Dunst This gorgeous Rodarte gown has all the grit and whimsy you'd expect from Kiki Dunst, who had the grace to tell the red carpet presenters that she loves the new "Little Women." She's a class act, with one of the best dresses of the night. Wesley Snipes Dakota Fanning This is excessively princess-y, in the best way possible. Cynthia Erivo When you want to wear a tux, but you're in shimmery dress form. Ana de Armas Best of the night? The standout star of "Knives Out" has absolutely nailed red carpet glam in this gorgeous Ralph Russo blue sequined, midnight blue gown. And it looks like it has pockets?! Perfection. Gillian Anderson So restrained, so refined, so elegant.
