Gucci Donated $500,000 to UNICEF for Fair Distribution of Future COVID-19 Vaccine

Women Wear Masks More Often Than Men, Obviously

National Geographic and Morning Consult surveyed more than 2,000 people about mask-wearing.

With multiple COVID-19 vaccines officially under review, Gucci has made a sizable donation to ensure its distribution on a global scale once it's approved.

On Friday, the luxury brand announced it will be donating $500,000 to UNICEF USA to make sure that no one is left without access to the vaccine. "No one is truly free unless we are all free: this also includes being free from sickness," Marco Bizzarri, Gucci's president and CEO, said in a statement per WWD. "Now that a COVID-19 vaccine appears to be ready for use, the true challenge is ensuring that it is procured and distributed fairly."

Additionally, the fashion house has pledged to match up to $100,000 of funds raised from the #GucciCommunity during a special "21-day challenge" that runs from Dec. 5 to 26.

"Over the next 21 days, everyone is invited to give their donations, large or small, which Gucci will match, up to a maximum of an additional $100,000," explained Bizzarri, adding: "This is a global battle, a global effort, and the commitment also needs to be global."

Gucci's donation will go toward various UNICEF initiatives, including the procurement of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers, the purchase of tens of thousand vaccine fridges, and the cost of transfer of the vaccine worldwide.

Back in March, Gucci donated more than $2 million to fight the coronavirus pandemic, while other fashion brands joined in the community effort, manufacturing face masks and other needed supplies, as well as paying their employees amid the shutdown of stores.
