Gwyneth Paltrow accused of hit and run on the ski slopes in new lawsuit
Gwyneth Paltrow is often in the news for a new treatment pitched on her lifestyle website Goop or her friendly relationship with ex-husband Chris Martin, but Tuesday it was all about her skiing.
The Oscar winner is one of several people being sued for more than $3.1 million by Utah resident Terry Sanderson, who alleges that Paltrow crashed into him and then left the scene on Feb. 26, 2016, when both were patrons of the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. He filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Summit County, Utah.
Sanderson said Paltrow was “out of control” on the slopes and ran into him from behind, “knocking him down, landing on top of him, and causing him to suffer a concussion, brain injury and four broken ribs.” Afterward, the lawsuit alleges, “Paltrow got up, turned and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow.”
In addition to Paltrow, the lawsuit names Eric Christiansen, a former Deer Valley employee who was with Paltrow at the time of the crash, two unnamed resort employees who were also with Paltrow’s group and the Deer Valley Resort Company as defendants.
Sanderson’s lawsuit claims that Christiansen did not see the crash before he allegedly accused him of being the person who caused it. Sanderson claims Christiansen screamed “What did you do?” at him and then skied away, never sending help and, instead, filing a false report to protect Paltrow. The lawsuit says that neither Paltrow nor any Deer Valley Resort employees called for help.
Paltrow’s representative gave the following statement to Yahoo Entertainment: “This lawsuit is completely without merit. Anyone who reads the facts will realize that.”
Deer Valley Resort tells Yahoo Entertainment that it “will not comment on any pending legal matters of the resort or our guests.”
Sanderson discussed his allegations at a Tuesday news conference, where a witness backed up his claim that the Sliding Doors actress caused the accident, according to Salt Lake City CBS affiliate KUTV.
