Gwyneth Paltrow’s Company Goop Addresses Controversial Weight-Loss Article

Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle company Goop has responded to backlash over what some are calling "extreme diet" advice. Read the advice that's causing controversy here.

Some readers of Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop have expressed their unhappiness with the lifestyle company's advice about losing weight, and the organization has released a response.

Earlier this year Goop posted an advice article on its website from fitness guru Tracy Anderson, and the story recently resurfaced as some fans and nutritionists (such as Rhiannon Lambert, who expressed "complete shock" that it was published) reacted negatively to its message and headline

The article—titled "Tracy Anderson on How to Lose Weight Fast"—offered Anderson's recommendations on how to "effectively do a fourteen-pound weight loss in four weeks," granted "if you have weight to lose."

While Paltrow has not directly commented on the controversy, a representative for Goop released a statement to E! News.

"We would never advocate for an unhealthy diet or extreme routine," the statement said. "As Tracy said in the interview, you should make choices based on what is best for your individual body."

A spokesperson for Anderson on Wednesday also addressed the article.

"Over the course of her 20-year career, Tracy has consistently practiced owning a 1 to 2 lb. weight loss per week when someone has unhealthy weight to lose. Owning a 1-2 lb. weight loss per week is different than simply dropping 1-2 lbs. per week, which causes people to hold onto unhealthy weight. Of the 14 lbs. that someone could effectively lose in a month—if they have excess weight on them—the goal is to own 8 lbs. of that, which is aligned with Tracy's practice of not living on extreme diets," the spokesperson told E! News. "Tracy does not advocate for processed foods existing in a healthy diet."
