This is hands down the worst reaction to a newly-engaged friend's text

Every friendship has its ups and downs, but when things turn toxic between you and your BFF, it’s time to pull the plug on your relationship. Like, now.

A 26 year-old woman recently took to Reddit Relationships looking for advice on whether to end things with her best friend of 15 years. The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says things between her and her best friend, Laura, came to a head after Laura had a less than stellar reaction to her engagement.

“I’m kinda done with this relationship but wanted to check if I’m out of line first,” wrote the recently engaged woman, who then launched into a classic tale of a friendship that showed serious signs of turning sour.

The woman says she and Laura had gone through high school and university together and now live in the same area. They seemed to be on the same path, both single, both looking to launch their careers, when suddenly things for one of them began to take off.

“Basically, we were single for a while together but after about a year of working my new job, I met a boy and we fell in love. Yesterday, after three years of dating, he asked me to marry him!”

Like any excited bride-to-be, she immediately messaged her best friend a picture of her ring to share the news but Laura’s text back was not what she expected.

“She sent back: ‘That’s cool. Relationships are trash.’”

First of all, how dare you?

While most of us would have been cracking our knuckles in preparation for a barrage of texts to set Petty Betty straight, the woman says she hasn’t spoken to Laura since receiving her “friend”’s incredibly rude text, and plans on ghosting her.

The woman ended her post saying, “I dont have very many friends so for my best friend to kinda crap on a special day made me really angry and sad.”

Reddit users was quick to come to her aide, affirming that when it comes to friends, friends like Laura are straight up trash.

“I expect it would be best for your sanity and long term emotional health if you just cut her off or slow fade her so that you don’t contact her again,” one user wrote.

“Texts like that are what I reserve the response ‘K’ for,” added another.

The thread then prompted other users to share stories of their experiences with toxic friendships, and helped remind the user that Laura’s pitiful response is a sign of her own frustration and sadness with her life.

Whether it’s a friendship, a relationship or family member, history is not a reason to stay in an unhealthy relationship. It’s difficult to end friendships- sometimes they hurt more they can hurt more than a break-up.

Happy memories are one thing, but the inability for someone to celebrate your future happiness is a definite deal-breaker. After-all, one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure.
