Kaitlyn Bristowe Gave Fans an Update on Her Ankle During This Week's 'DWTS,' and It's Good News

From Woman's Day

The second episode of season 29 of Dancing With the Stars only made it through two dance routines before there was a bit of drama. Before cutting to the first commercial break, host Tyra Banks announced there was "some breaking news." "Just before we went live, Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe was dealing with some pain, with an ankle injury," Banks continued. "So we gotta ask, will she pull through? I don't know." The camera then cut to show Bristowe, all dressed up, having her right ankle examined. Leading everyone to wonder what happened to Bristowe's ankle on DWTS.

Banks didn't provide any more information to viewers than the fact thar Bristowe was experiencing pain, and didn't seem to know whether Bristowe would perform. "We're gonna find out later; we're gonna find out live," Banks said.

Fans on Twitter sent well wishes to Bristowe in hopes she would be able to perform. "Can Kaitlyn please dance I am gonna cry," one said. "Ok, I seriously need to know what's up with @kaitlynbristowe before I go vote. I'm praying that ankle's feeling fine and dandy!" another wrote. And one fan said, "I support @kaitlynbristowe no matter what!"

Despite her ankle injury, Bristowe was cleared to dance, and performed a Foxtrot with partner Artem Chigvintsev. "I tell myself all the time that I am resilient,” Bristowe said prior to performing. “This is a dream, I will dance through anything and as long as I was cleared to do it, I'm happy to do it.”

The duo earned positive reviews from the judges. “Wow if that’s how you danced with an injured foot, I would’ve loved to see it without the injury,” Carrie Ann Inaba told the couple. “It was beautiful, it was graceful, it was effortless,” Derek Hough added. Bristowe and Chigvintsev earned a 22 out of 30 for the performance.

Bristowe didn’t reveal too much information about the injury, but did tell Banks that it's doing OK. "It helps to be in these shoes,” she said while showing off slightly flatter dance shoes.

Bristowe gave more information during the third week of the show — aka Disney Night. Following a stunning performance set to Moana's "How Far I'll Go," Banks asked how the Bachelorette's ankle was feeling."

"It’s better this week," Bristowe said. "I finally got results back. It’s not a fracture, just tendinitis, shin splints, and a little swollen.”

But the pain didn't keep her from earning another high score. Bristowe's Rumba earned a 23: two 8s from Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, and a 7 from Hough.
