Harry and Meghan joke about royal cottage being 'so small' in Netflix documentary
Meghan and Harry have joked in a new episode of their behind-the-scenes Netflix documentary series that their first royal home was too small – and not what anyone would expect from a property in palace grounds.
The couple lived in Nottingham Cottage, a grace and favour home in the grounds of Kensington Palace, prior to getting married in May 2018. Then later moved to Frogmore Cottage in Home Park, Windsor.
In episode four, the couple lament the reality of living at Kensington Palace, which "sounds like a palace" but, for them, wasn't.
"As far as people were concerned, we were living in a palace," Harry says. "And we were, in a cottage..."
Meghan, speaking in unison, clarifies: "In palace grounds."
"Kensington Palace sounds very regal, of course it does," she says. "It says 'palace' in the name!
"But Nottingham Cottage was so small."
Harry adds: "The whole thing's on a slight lean, really low ceilings. I don't know who was there before, they must have been very short."
Meghan continued: "He [Harry] would just hit his head constantly in that place because he's so tall."
Over pictures of themselves in the garden, she described "me with a hoe and H varnishing".

"It was just a chapter in our lives where I don't think anyone could believe what it was actually like behind the scenes."
Describing an occasion Oprah Winfrey, who attended the couple's wedding, visited them at the cottage the couple tell how she had looked at the cottage and exclaimed: "No-one would ever believe it."

They are then shown pretending to look around in shock as though they were copying how the talk-show host had behaved.
The couple have said the documentary series is a chance for them to share their story and contains a lot of previously unseen footage of them and their family.
Nottingham Cottage is owned by the Crown itself, rather than being privately held by the monarch like other royal properties including Balmoral, the Windsor's Scotland retreat where they spend a month each summer.
Prince William has also lived in the two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage and is also reported to have had trouble with the low ceilings during his tenure there.
The cosy home has been playfully referred to as "Nott Cott" by the royal household and family and was designed by Christopher Wren.
Other previous tenants include Marion Crawford — the late Queen's nanny who infamously wrote books about the royals and was later ostracised.
Yahoo News UK understands that neither Buckingham nor Kensington Palace will comment on the documentary.
