Have Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Settled on a Countryside Home?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have found the perfect summer retreat just weeks after their wedding.

Now that the wedding bells have rung and the vows have been said and done, it’s time for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to settle into real life, royal style. One of the things on their checklist? A country home.

William and Kate have Anmer Hall. Prince Charles and Camilla have Highgrove House. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have, well, a whole bunch of estates across the United Kingdom. But where will Harry and Meghan put down their country roots?

Royal watchers may have an answer. Multiple reports say that the newlyweds are renting an estate in the Cotswolds. US Magazine even goes as far as naming the place: WestfieldLarge, which is on the grounds of the Great Tew Estate. The property also is home to the Soho Farmhouse (where the Duchess of Sussex is rumored to have had her bachelorette party, and Victoria and David Beckham's weekend retreat.

The key word here is “renting.” It’s probable that, like she did with Prince Charles, Prince William, and many of her other relatives, Queen Elizabeth will gift an official country residence to Harry and Meghan. But oftentimes these properties aren’t exactly move-in ready: William and Kate, for example, undertook a two-year, estimated 2.3 million dollar renovation of Anmer Hall.

But the Cotswolds is an idyllic place to wait. “The region encompasses some of the prettiest shires in the country, a halcyon jumble of bridleways and farmland,” Vogue contributor Jo Rodgers writes in her travel guide. “As the road turns through downy hills, you’ll see game birds in the hedges and pedestrians with walking sticks. A sudden need for beer strikes hard.”

Now, if only the Duchess of Sussex still had an Instagram account.
