The Last of Us has everyone reeling episode after episode as the beloved video game tells its story in a new way. And if you’re like anyone else who has tuned in, you don’t want to miss a single second of the action. As Ellie and Joel’s story comes to an end (for now), so do opportunities for spoilers, especially if you’re not watching every week to see what’s happening. But now that the show is completely available, it’s the perfect time for a full binge or a rewatch before it comes back!

TL;DR: HBO basically did all of us a favor by releasing the episodes weekly. And while it is somewhat annoying to wait week after week, at least it follows a consistent schedule that makes it easy to catch up even if you skip a week. So here’s a breakdown of The Last of Us’s episode release schedule.

When and where do episodes of The Last of Us drop?

Episodes were available every Sunday, starting with the premiere on January 15. Fans who had access to HBO’s cable channel were able to watch live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT or use their cable log-in to watch the show on HBO Max. Viewers who were only HBO Max subscribers are also able to tune in at the same time to watch it from the app.

Episode 5 changed its release schedule due to the Super Bowl (aka the ultimate Rihanna concert). The episode was released on HBO Max and HBO on Demand starting at 9 p.m. ET on February 10. Fans who still wanted to watch it on HBO’s cable channel were able to do so in its original Sunday night time slot.

Unfortunately, the show didn’t make a schedule change for the upcoming Oscars, which was set for the season’s big finale. So some fans had to make a decision and try to avoid spoilers for one or the other depending on which they decided to watch live.

Here’s the release schedule for The Last of Us

The first season will consist of nine episodes, each released on a weekly basis. In addition, HBO also dropped a surprise behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the series during finale night.

  • Episode 2: “Infected,” January 22, 2023

  • Episode 3: “Long, Long Time,” January 29, 2023

Will there be another season?

Thankfully, HBO gave this a really quick renewal, which shouldn’t be too surprising considering it’s been one of the network’s biggest shows. There’s still a lot up in the air about what we can expect next, but there’s a lot of story left and even an entire sequel video game available, so we still have a lot to look forward to!
