You know you have a special bond when he can read your mind — especially when it comes to your beauty habits. A teen girl named Riley from Circleville, Ohio, has a catch on her hands with Trent, her boyfriend of less than a year. She also has something else on her hand: one single painted fingernail.

It all started when Riley texted a sweet picture to her beau. It was actually a picture of a picture: Riley was holding a Polaroid of the couple in her hand for the shot, which spotlighted a perfectly manicured thumb. Shortly after she sent the image, Trent replied with a line that showed just how well he knows his girlfriend and her quirky habits.

“Did you just paint your thumb to take this pic?" Trent asked, with a laughing emoji. Somehow he knew that Riley had indeed painted just one nail to stage a pretty shot to send to her love. Basically, Riley got called out by her boyfriend for her sneaky photo-staging hack — and in the process got confirmation that Trent is in tune with her in a sixth-sense sort of way.

Amused, Riley tweeted a screen grab of the exchange alongside proof that her Trent had hit the nail on the head with his comment. “I’m embarrassed,” she wrote. The post went viral, with more than 53,000 likes and more than 26,000 retweets at last count. Twitter users can’t get over how crazy and cute the incident is. “He knows her so well this is so adorable,” one person commented. “The mental connection,” another commented with two crying emojis. (For sure, two are called for in a situation this emotional.)

Some very connected couples do have a sixth sense about each other — science says so. According to the Daily Mail, “Scientists have found that some couples are so in tune that their brains begin to work in sync.” The article points to a study that revealed the bonded couples “had become so close they were ‘physiologically aligned’. That means they had reached a state in which their nervous systems were ticking over in harmony, helping them to know each other’s thoughts and emotions.”

Other commenters were stunned simply because they either had done that before or knew someone who had. Riley’s one painted nail brought people together! Social media users said things such as, “aww don’t be lol. He loves you and he knows you,” “lmao this was so adorable,” and even, “you have great nail beds.” Countless others totally related to Riley’s little trick, writing, “Why is this me?” and even tagging friends with “You have actually done this hahahahah!”. It’s just one of those things. The Internet feels you, girl.

According to Buzzfeed, Trent feels that he made Riley famous with his perceptive reply. But Riley is hoping her 15 minutes of fame lead to one thing. “My biggest goal in life is to make it to the Ellen Show with this tweet! @TheEllenShow,” she posted on Monday.
