From Town & Country

Earlier this week, we learned that Barack Obama is taking his family to Palm Springs on vacation after tomorrow's inauguration. But what else is on the Obama family's agenda for Donald Trump's big day?

Tomorrow morning, Obama will wake up on his last day as president and will likely pen a letter to his successor. He has already written a farewell letter to the American people, but the one to the new president is private and is usually left in the desk at the oval office. (Check out the moving letter George H.W. Bush left for Bill Clinton here.)

The president and the first lady are then expected to host President-elect Trump and his wife, Melania, for tea at the White House. The Obama daughters, Sasha and Malia, may also show Trump's sons and daughters around, like the Bush daughters did for them in 2009. According to ABC News, President Obama is planning to ride with Trump in the motorcade from the White House to the Capitol.

Following the midday inauguration ceremony tomorrow-Trump takes the oath of office at noon-the Obamas will board a helicopter at the Capitol that will fly them to Joint Base Andrews, where there will be a departure ceremony with select White House staff, the Chicago Tribune reports (watch the Bush family's experience below). By that time the Obamas will be the former First Family, so when they board Air Force One for their flight to the West Coast, the plane will have a different call sign.

After their vacation, the Obamas will move into the 8,200-square-foot house they rented in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and Barack Obama will be working out of an office in the World Wildlife Fund headquarters. Both Barack and Michelle are expected to write memoirs, and they intend to stay in Washington until their youngest daughter, Sasha, finishes high school at Sidwell Friends. Their eldest, Malia, is heading to Harvard this fall following the gap year she is currently taking.
