Hilary Duff's go-to uniform as a mom-of-three is all about comfort.
The 33-year-old "Younger" star was recently spotted on a family outing looking relaxed and happy in a pair of cozy sweats and one of summer's most popular footwear looks, a pair of trusty Birkenstocks.
Duff paired her white Arizona Birkenstocks ($187 CAD/ $150 USD) with a pair of cozy Boys Lie sweatpants ($143 CAD/$115 USD) and long cardigan while wearing her three-month-old daughter, Mae, in a baby carrier. Duff has been a longtime fan of Birkenstocks, having been spotted in a pair of white buckled slides for years.

What makes Birkenstocks so popular is their cork insole, which contours to your foot over time, meaning the more you wear them, the more comfortable they become. Birkenstocks are known to help aid common foot ailments without having to go the route of pricey custom orthotics. From arch support to plantar fasciitis, bunions to joint pain, Birkenstocks have been known to help alleviate foot and back pain with each step.

SHOP IT: Nordstrom, $150 USD
With their oversized buckles and chic leather uppers, these Birks have a contemporary edge, and have transcended their reputation of being a part of “hippie” style culture. This particular style with leather uppers may be harder to source for Canadian shoppers, but not impossible. The popular style is available at select retailers that ship to Canada and available at Nordstrom (U.S.) in a variety of colours.
If you're having trouble finding some white Arizona Birkenstocks, there is a synthetic leather option available for $130 CAD/ $115 USD from Urban Outfitters that look just as trendy.
“I have plantar fasciitis and my podiatrist said Birks are approved to wear," one Nordstrom shopper wrote. So I’ve bought a couple of pairs, and I love them! It’s the first time I’ve worn the shoes, and I’m a total convert."
“I'm so happy with my Birks, the big buckle is definitely cuter than the traditional Arizona buckles,” another wrote. “The shipping was super fast ordered my sandals on a Friday morning by Tuesday morning they were already at my doorstep. I'm a huge fan of Arizona and these are my fifth pair. It's a chic, comfortable year-round sandal with an incredibly soft footbed.”
Other shoppers have cautioned people new to wearing Birkenstocks to give them time to adjust to your feet before dismissing them as uncomfortable.
"So pretty in person! I got the oiled black with the silver big buckle. I love how the big buckle steps it up a notch from the traditional Birkenstock’s. When I first got mine they were very uncomfortable and I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep them. I’m. A little flat footed so the high arch support was not very comfortable and the top strap kept rubbing against the top of my foot making it really sore and I was afraid I might get a blister," one shopper said. "After talking to some friends who swear by them, I wore them for a few days around the house to break them in and now they Are perfect. They are SO comfortable I reach for them all the time. Would definitely recommend this shoe. Also, I typically wear a 7 1/2 - 8 but with these I got the 38 (7) and they fit perfect so definitely size down."
