Houston County schools promote two employees to principal, beginning in June

The Houston County school board promoted two employees to principal this month, with both beginning their new role in June.

Marlon Robinson will take over as principal at Huntington Middle after Gwendolyn Taylor retires at the end of the school year.

Kristen Brooks will be the next principal at Shirley Hills Elementary School.

“I am so excited and honored to be named principal of Huntington Middle School,” said Robinson in a press release. “I am looking forward to working with every stakeholder to continue to move Huntington Middle School onward and upward.”

For the past 14 years, Robinson has been an assistant principal at Bonaire Middle School. Before taking on that role, Robinson was named Teacher of the Year in 2004 at Perry High, a school where he taught math for 11 years. At Perry, Robinson also coached basketball, baseball, and softball.

Robinson has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Fort Valley State University and an associate’s degree in secondary education from Middle Georgia College. He also has a master’s degree in educational leadership and a doctorate in educational leadership and higher education from Nova Southeastern University.

Brooks first began teaching in 2006 as a third grade teacher at Lindsey Elementary School. Since then, she has taught second through third grade, English as a second language, has been a science curriculum writer, and has coached cheerleading at Northside High and Warner Robins Middle.

She also served as an assistant principal at Lindsey Elementary School before moving into her current role of assistant principal at Northside Elementary and Eagle Springs Elementary.

“It is truly a blessing to have been given the opportunity to serve as Principal at Shirley Hills Elementary School. I would like to thank Dr. Scott and the Board of Education for believing in me to lead and serve this school community,” said Brooks in a press release. “To the staff, students, parents and community, I look forward to fostering positive relationships and ensuring that all of our Mighty Mustangs continue to learn at high levels.”

Brooks went to Fort Valley State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree of science in early childhood education, and she has also earned a master of education in instructional technology.

She holds an education specialist degree from Georgia College and State University in educational leadership. In addition to her degrees, Brooks has gifted, math, and science endorsements through Middle Georgia RESA.
