How To VALORANT: Neon's backslide and how to do it

The 18th agent released in VALORANT, Neon, is the speedster of the game, able to run faster than any other agent when she uses her run ability, High Gear.

While High Gear is active, Neon is also able to slide, much like the slide in Call of Duty and Apex Legends.

In our first impressions article, we stated that she could only slide forwards or diagonally forwards. However, we've since discovered she is actually able to slide sideways and backwards as well.

But the backslide specifically is extremely difficult to pull off, and you must adhere to certain conditions before you can consistently activate it.

So, what do you need to do?

Basically, while in High Gear, when you are running forward, you will notice a little icon appearing at her ability bar.

This represents her 'slide charge', and you are only able to slide when you see this icon pop up. When you let go of your forward key while running, you will also notice that the icon will promptly disappear.

To do a backslide, all you have to do is to press the backwards key and right-click before this icon disappears.

Sounds simple, right?

In theory, yes. But you only have an extremely limited amount of time to pull this off. I would personally say that you only have 1 in-game frame to get it right.

So, to learn more about this mechanic and how to do it, you can refer to the guide that we prepared specifically for this tech:

An easier way to do a backslide is to jump forward, and right when you almost hit the ground, you can press backwards and right-click to do a backwards slide.

This is much easier to do than when you are grounded, and it could be an alternative way to do the backslide if you cannot master the grounded version in the meantime.

Honestly, while this backslide tech is a 'nice to have', it isn't essential to her usefulness in game.

If you are able to master it, it is a very good tool to have in her arsenal. But if you can't, I wouldn't worry too much. She still is able to be a speed demon without it.

Dominic loves tech and games. When he is not busy getting headshotted in VALORANT or watercooling anything he sees, he does some pro wrestling.
