While other awards show this year like the Golden Globes and SAG awards were almost entirely virtual (and with varying degree of success), awards season is coming to a close with the 93rd annual Academy Awards as an in-person event.
Oscar producers have planned for a live ceremony, with the show being broadcast from the landmark Los Angeles Dolby Theatre and the historic Union Station. Instead of being held within the historic indoor theatre, the ceremony will predominantly take place outdoors to comply with COVID-19 guidelines.
When are the Oscars?
The Oscars takes place on Sunday, April 25th and will be airing live on CTV starting at 8 p.m. EST/ 5 p.m. PST. The awards ceremony will also be live-streamed on ctv.ca.

This year's theme is "Stories Matter," and the producers have asked those invited to take part in interviews where they'll share their own personal stories. Steven Soderbergh, co-producer of the show, said in a press conference that the ceremony will be "like a movie," as they are aiming for "the aesthetic of a film as opposed to a TV show."

Unlike the usual Oscars ceremony, the four Oscar-nominated songs will be performed on the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures rooftop in a pre-taped special, "Oscars: Into the Spotlight." It will be hosted by actors Ariana DeBose and Lil Rel Howery.
Most nominees are expected to attend in person, and Oscar hubs have been set up in London and Paris which allows Europeans unable to travel due to restrictions to dial in via satellite hookups. Stars in attendance will include Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Zendaya, Regina King, Renée Zellweger and Laura Dern.
The three-hour show will hand out 23 Oscars and two Governors awards. The Oscars will continue its red carpet tradition, but it will be on a much smaller scale.
