One lot of ice cream from Homestead Creamery in Wirtz, Virginia is the subject of a recall because quarts could contain undeclared pecans. Various retail supermarkets in Virginia and North Carolina received shipments of the product in May, according to the FDA's ice cream recall announcement. But, Homestead Creamery offers home delivery on its ice cream, milk, and lemonade. The recalled ice cream was sent straight to consumer's doorsteps in those two states the same month.

The lot contains chocolate quarts that and could have traces of the undeclared nut. They have the date "5/13/2021" on the bottom of the carton. If someone with a pecan nut allergy unknowingly consumes the contaminated ice cream, they can "run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction." No injuries relating to this ice cream recall have been reported. (Related: Chocolate ice cream is still iconic, but here are 15 Classic American Desserts That Deserve a Comeback.)

"The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing the pecans may have been distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of pecans," the FDA says. "Consumers should return the ice cream quart to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 540-721-2045."

The creamery makes 22 flavors of ice cream, including regular chocolate as well as chocolate pecan and butter pecan. Several other recalls have affected grocery items at major retailers in recent weeks. Over 1,000 premade salad bowls Trader Joe's stores are the subject of a recall because of possible undeclared allergens. They were shipped to 36 locations and could contain milk and eggs.
