I'm Updating My Millennial Denim Wardrobe With These Slouchy, Wide-Leg Jeans
Editors' Picks are the Fashionista team's true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.
Since Fashionista published its exploration of what jeans we're wearing now, I've made it a mission to upgrade my existing millennial denim wardrobe. Unlike Meghan Markle, who still pulls them off with grace, I've moved on from my skinny jeans — but I haven't quite figured out my current denim aesthetic yet.
I've been stepping outside my usual comfort zone, experimenting with different silhouettes, waist heights and the like. And, in all of my recent denim shopping efforts, the Citizens of Humanity Ayla Baggy Cuffed Crop jeans have emerged as a favorite pair. Wide-leg — but not quite approaching JNCO territory — and slouchy, with a very slight barrel effect and a thick cuff at the bottom, they're equal parts visually interesting, current and comfy. (The cuff is also un-cuffable, so it's customizable, which I appreciate as a short person who sometimes likes to wear heels, but also sometimes doesn't.)
While they're available in an impressive range of 10 different washes, my favorite is Voila, an inky black without too much distracting detailing or whiskering.
They're basically the anti-skinny jeans, and I'm ready to lean into them full speed ahead. No offense to Meghan or anything.
Citizens of Humanity Ayla Baggy Cuffed Crop in Voila, $268, available here (sizes 22-31)
