The internet is dragging President Trump for wearing a mismatched suit

President Trump has committed the ultimate style crime: wearing a mismatched suit.

The offense occurred Wednesday during a meeting with Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., during which the two politicians discussed race relations in the wake of the Charlottesville protests and comments the president made in August, which included the remark “I think there’s blame on both sides.”

While Sarah Sanders said in a post-meeting press conference that the meeting was “very productive,” the president received an “F” grade from Twitter on his outfit, composed of a navy blue jacket, a bright blue tie, and black slacks.

Upstaging Trump’s black-and-blue error: Scott’s fuchsia socks with bright blue polka dots, which social media called “amazing” and “A+.”

So is it ever OK for a man to mix and match formal wear? “I wouldn’t advise wearing a mismatched suit,” Cristina Pearlstein, stylist and founder of How Do You Fashion, tells Yahoo Style. “There are exceptions — for example, a sports jacket with suit pants — but it’s a very tricky look to pull off.”

In the case of Trump, “He looks like he got dressed in the dark,” she says, adding that the look was likely accidental. The dead giveaway: Trump’s tie. “A bright blue tie matches with a white dress shirt and a navy suit,” says Pearlstein. “It seems as though the president simply grabbed a pair of black pants, believing they were blue.”

She adds, “If a stylist dressed the president, they should be fired.”
