The Internet Is Not Here for This Article on Meghan Markle's "Single Gray Hair"
With the royal wedding happening in a little more than one month, Meghan Markle fever is at an all-time high, with everything the former Suits actor or her betrothed Prince Harry doing becoming international news. And while a healthy dose of Anglophilia is just fine, something happened on the Internet on Thursday that finally broke the camel's back, unleashing a horde of angry social media users.
For the article in question, Marie Claire detected a single gray hair on Markle's head. The writer then proceeded to jokingly point out that the 36-year-old actress, who is about to marry the grandson of the literal Queen of England, is just like the rest of us because she missed a hair color appointment. "Who knows if Meghan Markle is choosing to just own it, not waste the time and money on such frequent upkeep, or, just doesn't notice because it's ONE HAIR," author and digital director of the site Sally Holmes wrote. "But, either way, it's nice to see she's a regular person with a few stray grays, just like everyone else!"
But to many readers, the author's humor largely missed the mark, and critics called out the magazine for dedicating time and energy to the subject matter of gray hairs. "Marie Claire over here writing about a single grey hair on the glorious head of Meghan Markle. Adjust your perspective, this is ridiculous," one user wrote. Another posted a photo of her own salt-and-pepper hair and demanded justice, penning, "I’m younger than Meghan Markle and have WAY more gray hairs. Where’s my article, @marieclaire?." Another wrote, "Meghan Markle missed 1 appointment with her colorist and Marie Claire decided to put their journalism degrees to use."
To be fair, this is not the first time that Markle's hair has launched a thousand headlines. Her oft messy buns have received criticism from prim-and-proper royal historians, who claim she is breaking official "impeccable styling" protocol. (The protocol is why the queen wears several hats and Kate Middleton rocks a hair net every once in a while.) Gray hair plus a messy bun equals historians shaking in their britches. Give 'em hell, Meghan.
