Meghan Markle’s friends have spoken out against the wave of negative press about the Duchess.

In a series of interviews, the five anonymous pals say they want to “speak the truth” about Meghan – including her relationship with her estranged Thomas Markle.

But PR expert Nick Ede tells Yahoo Style UK that the interviews with PEOPLE were “bizarre” and “unnecessary”, especially as it’s in an American publication, adding: “In the US, there’s really not that much negativity about her.”

There have been reports in the British press about Meghan’s “difficult” behaviour and a rumoured feud with the Duchess of Cambridge.

The five pals were not named in the series of interviews and instead are referred to as a friend from LA, a close confidante, a longtime friend, a former colleague and a former co-star.

Ede thinks their request for anonymity is “quite cowardly.”

He says: “If you’re going to talk about someone in a positive light then you should say proudly ‘I think she’s a wonderful woman and I’m proud to be her friend’, it’s almost like cloak and dagger.

“It could actually have quite a negative effect on Meghan and people’s opinion of her.

“A lot of people could be like ‘Oh well, Meghan must have made people do this, to make her publicity better,’ it could backfire quite badly on her.”

Ede believes that the Duchess doesn’t need five unnamed people to back her up, when she has the support of the Royal Family.
