Ireland Baldwin reveals her shaved head: 'Do things that scare you'

Ireland Baldwin is showing the world her new hairdo.

The actress and social media influencer, 26, took to Instagram this weekend to share a set of photos featuring her new haircut: a bleached blond buzzcut.

"Don’t tell me I won’t do something because I will," Baldwin captioned her selfies.

The daring cut received plenty of reactions, including a few from Baldwin's own family members.

"This is my baby," wrote mom Kim Basinger, praising the new look as "simply beautiful." "Don’t tell her not to do something, because she will. I’m a witness to that and have been for many years."

"Wow! Love it," added the former model's uncle, actor Billy Baldwin.

The daughter of actor Alec Baldwin also drew compliments from the likes of Sarah Paulson, Jonathan Van Ness, Tess Holliday and Hilary Duff, who called her cut "dreamy."

In her Instagram Stories, Baldwin went into more detail about why she chose to shave her head.

"Do things that scare you," she wrote. "Do things that other people say you'll never do. My hair was destroyed by years of bleach and modeling and bulls*** since I was 17. It's long overdue for a restart/refresh. I've always wanted to do this but I was always scared. Now that I don't care about what other people think, I feel more beautiful than ever."

At the bottom, Baldwin added "GI Jane/Evey Hammond level unlocked," referencing the 1997 flick G.I. Jane and the 2005 Natalie Portman film, V for Vendetta, both of which had lead characters who shaved their heads.

She also shared a "before" shot of herself waiting to have her red hair shaved off.

"Bye red villain era ... will miss you," Baldwin captioned the selfie.

While she lightly referenced it in her post, Baldwin has frequently spoken about the influence her years modeling have had on her self image. Back in May, she told Yahoo Life that she actually wished she didn't pursue a modeling career when she was a teen.

"I regret getting into the modeling industry at all, honestly. I already struggled with extreme body dysmorphia and eating disorders and all kinds of issues prior to modeling," Baldwin shared. "That was something I was introduced to very young. I was 16 and I should have been in school and with my friends and not worried about how I looked in a bikini."

While her mother attempted to deter her from entering the industry, Baldwin did it anyway. As a result, her mental health "spiraled when I began modeling."

"It was so normal to have such an unhealthy view of yourself," she added. "This was my job— to be told that I was fat. It was a job at that point."
