J Brand RTW Spring 2017

J Brand loosened up for spring. “It’s buoyant and alive and about getting your sexy back,” said Laura Pizzarelli, vice president of marketing and design, during a walk-through of the denim brand’s latest lineup. What she meant was a more undone, nonchalant take on sexy with a focus on drapey, deconstructed fits and buttery soft fabrics.

Although skinny jeans aren’t going anywhere fast — the range offered a few styles, including a cropped skinny in a faded, bleached-out wash — most silhouettes were cut for roomy fits, as in wide-leg culottes, baggy boyfriend styles, cropped flares and oversize shorts. Cotton shirting and denim jackets, worn unbuttoned or off-the-shoulder, featured raw finishes like undone hems, fringe and plenty of back detail, as in a jacket decorated with sunburst stitching. A series of neon orange, pink and lime green looks underscored the collection’s playful, carefree spirit.
