J.Lo Wore Head-to-Toe Chanel for Biden's Inauguration
It's been a year of career highlights for Jennifer Lopez. Last February she made her stunning Versace-clad Super Bowl halftime debut in Miami, causing a social media sensation for the performance, and for the fact that she could look so flawless at 50. Just last month she headlined Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve celebrations, helping all of us sheltered at home live vicariously through her sequined Balmain bodysuit and shoulder pads.
On Wednesday, Lopez joined a long line of singers before her, including Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Beyoncé, and Bruce Springsteen, when she performed at the inauguration ceremony of 46th President Joseph R. Biden. To mark the momentous occasion, she wore a full Chanel ensemble, in all suffragette white.
Lopez and her husband Alex Rodriguez had joined Biden on the trail during the presidential, and, more importantly, called attention to the lopsided impact of coronavirus in the Latino community. That show of advocacy was surely noted by the Biden transition team, which made honoring the victims of the pandemic a tenet of Wednesday's events.
Tony Allen, ceo of the Presidential Inaugural Committee, said of the event's performers: "They represent one clear picture of the grand diversity of our great nation and will help honor and celebrate the time-honored traditions of the presidential inauguration."
The star set aside her on-stage penchant for curve-hugging, Swarovski-encrusted looks for a ruffled silk blouse and a floor-length tweed coat, paired with Chanel pearl earrings, pearl bracelets, and pearl belt. There was, however, a peek of sparkle underneath it all: her sequined wide-leg pants.
The multi-hyphenate performer sang a beautiful medley of "This Land is Your Land" and "America the Beautiful," in the middle of which she spoke in Spanish ("One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice of all") and worked in her iconic hit, "Let's Get Loud."
And while this may have been one of her more subdued performances to date, the customary J.Lo shine was still ever-present, helped all the more by that colossal emerald engagement ring glistening under the bright D.C. sun.
