Jackie Kennedy's Favorite Costume Jewels Go Up For Sale

The vintage shopping site Re-SEE has partnered with the brand Kenneth Jay Lane to launch a two-part sale of the late costume jeweler’s archive. Lane started designing jewelry while he was working as a footwear designer for Dior, and a mutual friend introduced him to Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, who bought several pieces. Costume jewelry was becoming increasingly popular among the elite, both as a way to freely wear fakes to major events (leaving the real thing safely at home in the vault) and as a fun way to add sparkle to a hairstyle or to take on vacation. Part one launches on July 12 and will feature some of Diana Vreeland, Princess Margaret, and Jackie Kennedy Onassis's favorite pieces from the 1960s to the 1990s, including the iconic Starfish Collection and 1976 Royal Worcester Collection.
