R. Kelly’s music on Spotify is spiking, according to The Blast, and Jada Pinkett Smith is “having a really difficult time understanding why.”

On Sunday, the Red Table Talk host took to social media to ask her fans for help grasping the news after reading the report that said since Lifetime aired the first part of the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly on Thursday night, streams have apparently spiked 16 percent.

“I think it’s important that I understand why,” she said referring to the news. “I really would like for you guys to help me understand what I am missing. Even if I’m missing something that I don’t necessarily agree with. I just want to understand what I’m missing.”

The actress said that she’d further discuss the controversy in a Facebook Live on Wednesday at 5 p.m. PST but asked her followers to sound off in the comments ahead of time.

Many were thoughtful with their responses.

“I think a lot of times people try to research a person by their lyrics. Maybe these sales represent the curious listener hoping R. Kelly gives them something that they won’t see in the blinding heat of the limelight,” jlabbeii wrote.

ust_tyrese said, “I watched it too, and was shocked. I got to thinking. Can you, people in general, separate the Art from the Artist? R.Kelly’s music. Or Michael Jackson’s music. Or Bill Cosby and The Cosby Show.”

Pinkett Smith concluded: “I really don’t want to believe that it’s because black girls don’t matter enough. Or is that the reason?”
