Jake Gyllenhaal and Oscar Isaac to Star in Movie About the Making of The Godfather

Though The Godfather ended up becoming an Oscar-winning hit and, for a while, the highest grossing film of all time, its creation was complicated, to say the least. A 31 year-old Francis Ford Coppola battled with Paramount executive Robert Evans throughout production, and tensions were high. Nonetheless, one of history's best movies emerged.
Though filming has yet to begin, here you'll find all of the information about the new behind-the-scenes drama, starring some of your favorite actors.
Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal will star.
In the feature, Isaac will play the young Francis Ford Coppola, The Godfather's director. Coppola also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Mario Puzo, who wrote the best-selling novel on which the film was based.
Jake Gyllenhaal will play former Paramount studio head, Robert Evans, who supervised the production. Evans faced his own pressures as a studio head, since, when he took the helm, Paramount was in danger of closure.
While the rest of the cast still has yet to be announced, Barry Levinson is set to direct the feature. Facing a pretty "meta" task—directing a movie about directing a movie—Levinson seems up for the challenge. Levinson is best known for Rain Man, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director.
The movie will chart the behind-the-scenes drama in creating The Godfather.
Developing the iconic 1972 film was no easy feat. Just to name some of the points of conflict: Coppola wanted to film the movie in New York, which was expensive, and insisted that Paramount gamble on casting then-relatively unknown Marlon Brando for mob patriarch Don Corleone and Al Pacino as Michael Corleone. Evans, who was struggling to keep his head above water at Paramount, fought Coppola on these convictions (though clearly, and luckily, caved in).
According to Deadline, "The film clearly focuses on the clashes between filmmaker and a studio chief who badly needed a hit."
Coppola eventually went on to become one of the world's most famous directors. He also helmed two more Godfather movies, both of which were hits. Though Coppola is not involved in this production, he gave it his seal of approval.
“Any movie that Barry Levinson makes about anything, will be interesting and worthwhile!” he said.
