Jason Momoa addresses Aquaman's future in James Gunn's DCU

The DC movie universe is undergoing a major revamp, with James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over as creative leads and announcing a whole slate of films. That includes a lot of characters getting new actors and rebooted continuities.

But some of the existing actors' DC futures are up in the air, specifically the ones who had their films already in the can before the studio overhaul was announced.

It was previously claimed that Zachary Levi might be part of the new universe depending on how well Shazam! Fury of the Gods did (which, as it turns out, was not well), but what about Jason Momoa?

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is due out later this year, and anything could happen between now and then, but Aquaman himself Jason Momoa is pretty confident he'll remain involved.

"Peter [Safran]'s my producer [on the Aquaman sequel], and is a dear friend," the actor told Total Film. "I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU. It’s on, bro – there’s no one bigger than Aquaman!

"But, also, I hope people are excited to see the new one. It’s fun. I really enjoy doing comedy. There’s some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson. I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It’s like we’re brothers. There’s a lot of cool stuff happening in this one."

The upcoming The Flash movie, which is due for release on June 16, is apparently set to explain all the continuity reset, as it involves time-travel and multiverse shenanigans.

But both the Aquaman sequel and the Blue Beetle movie are releasing after The Flash, so who knows what that means for those characters and their big-screen futures.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom currently has a release date of December 25, 2023 in the US and December 29, 2023 in the UK.
