It was a brief appearance.
Cutler started and played two series, which amounted to 12 snaps including penalties.
Officially, the 34-year-old went 3-for-6 for 24 yards. Cutler completed his first pass attempt, to running back Jay Ajayi that went for 11 yards, but a 31-yard completion to DeVante Parker on third-and-long later in the possession was taken off the board when tackle Sam Young was called for holding.
Another penalty on the next play wiped out a 19-yard run by Ajayi, and Cutler and the Dolphins were unable to convert the third-and-26.
Cutler came out of retirement earlier this month to play with Miami and his former offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears, Adam Gase, who is now the Dolphins’ head coach. He completed his first pass of his second drive, this a seam play for 16 yards to Parker, who seemingly is his preferred target.
Cutler looked Parker’s way again a couple of plays later, this time on a deep sideline pass and into double coverage. Cutler overthrew his wideout.
Another long third down failed when Cutler was quickly pressured up the middle by Za’Darius Smith and tried to dump the ball off; the closest receiver was running back Damien Williams. Cutler got planted in the Hard Rock Stadium turf by Smith.
And that was the end of his night.
