As a former first daughter, mom of two, and journalist, Jenna Bush Hager isn’t exactly the first person you’d expect to see on the red carpet at the Met Gala. But on Monday night, Hager was there — and she was dressed to impress.

While typically seen on NBC’s Today Show wearing sheath dresses with high necklines and knee-length hems in colors that work best on camera, Hager took a risk for the special evening. The guipure lace gown she opted for is designed by fellow Texas-native Lela Rose and features long puff sleeves with a collar and a low V neckline. The piece retails for $3,995.

But the dress, while pretty, wasn’t the best part of the look. A red smoky eye and bedhead-like hair made the anchor appear almost unrecognizable considering the beauty look’s so dramatically different than her typical composed aesthetic.
