Excitement about news of the Sex And The City reboot was met with disappointment when fan realised Kim Cattrall wouldn't be returning to reprise the role of Samantha Jones. Now, Jennifer Coolidge has responded to calls for her to take over.

ICYMI, 23 years(!) after the first series of SATC graced our screens, a teaser video revealed the likes of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica-Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) will be back for a follow up instalment.

"I couldn’t help but wonder... where are they now?" Sarah J-P wrote on Instagram. "X, SJ. @HBOMax @JustLikeThatMax #AndJustLikeThat #SATCNextChapter."

In the comments of the post, a fan suggested Kim Cattrall aka Samantha Jones wouldn't be part of the project because she and Sarah "dislike each other".

Replying to the comment Parker said, "no. I don't dislike her. I've never said that. Never would. Samantha isn't part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do."

Cattrall has also subtly hinted at her reason for not partaking in the show.

Now, none other than Jennifer Coolidge from Legally Blonde and American Pie, has responded to claims that she might be taking over the role of Samantha Jones.

The actress, who actually made a brief appearance on the show back in 2003, shut down any calls for her to become a permanent fixture in the reboot during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

"I was a huge, and still am, a huge Sex and the City fan," she said. "It's one of those shows you can just watch the reruns and never get tired of them. But I have to say, I am such a Kim Cattrall fan and I don't see anyone being able to replace her in that part."

She's got a point - Samantha just isn't Samantha without Kim Cattrall.
