Jennifer Lopez's AMAs Hair Is Wet and Wavy

Something tells us she'll switch it up for her performance.

Back in 1997, Jennifer Lopez hit the big screen in Selena, a role that would catapult her into superstardom. Netflix is set to give the Tejana legend the series treatment and Lopez can't be more excited. In a clip shared by Netflix, Lopez recounted her time playing Selena Quintanilla Perez and gave her blessing to Christian Serratos (you'll recognize her from The Walking Dead), who plays the late singer in Netflix's Selena: The Series.

Entertainment Tonight reports the Lopez is happy to "pass the baton"

"Guys, I don't know if you've heard about this new Selena series on Netflix," Lopez said. "Playing Selena was kind of a landmark moment in my career. And I was so excited when I saw the trailer and heard about it. It's a great way for this generation to get to know Selena. I love Selena, she was such a big part of my life and my career. And I can't wait to see it!"

Lopez's film portrayal of Quintanilla Perez chronicled her career as an up-and-coming singer to becoming a top-selling Mexican-American star. Quintanilla was murdered by her fan club president, Yolanda Saldivar, in 1995, just before her 24th birthday. Quintanilla Perez won a Grammy Award in 1994 for Best Mexican-American album, making her the first female artist to win in that category.

Netflix's first part of the series, which premieres on December 4, will span nine episodes and is authorized by Quintanilla's family.
