Jim Belushi believes John Belushi 'would still be alive' if he had medicinal cannabis
Growing Belushi premiered Wednesday night on Discovery. The show chronicles actor Jim Belushi’s foray into the cannabis growing industry, which he partially contributes to the tragic death of his brother John Belushi.
John was an all-star football player in high school and his brother believes the violent hits he endured on the field had a major impact on his health later in life.
“He was a middle linebacker,” said Jim. “I know he had damage to the brain.”
Jim thinks his brother suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE. John turned to alcohol and drugs to self-medicate, which led to his death in 1982 from a drug-overdose.
“In the ’70s, if they knew what we knew today about marijuana and the healing benefits,” said Jim. “I think my brother John would still be alive.”
Jim claims he did not get into the cannabis growing business to make money, but rather to help others. “I did it to feel purposeful in my life,” he said. “And this is an opportunity to be successful with something that is healing.”
Growing Belushi airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Discovery.
