It’s midsummer and many of us are lightening up with a new haircut or colour, and sunny blonde Jodie Comer is embodying the mood, having just visited her hairstylist – the inimitable Sam McKnight – for a ‘kitchen cut’.

Back in January she saw McKnight for a midi-cut at his home in North London, and now he’s updated her look with a long bob (or 'lob') cut with choppier layers.

Yes, if you were in any doubt about the return of layers, let this confirm their status as chic once more. With Nineties and early Noughties influences still making their mark on everyone’s sartorial choices today, we can expect Comer’s nod to ‘The Rachel’ to further propel this in hair trends.

What makes her layered look feel modern is the addition of curtain bangs, a soft sweeping fringe that appears to have grown out, yet never really existed.

Plus, there’s her colour, the creamy candlelight blonde that’s alight in celebrity circles this summer. 'It gives a fresh twist on that Nineties supermodel blonde that was made popular by Claudia Schiffer, yet it’s softer to wear and makes hair look healthy as opposed to being over-coloured,' colour specialist Christel Barron-Hough tells us.

To nourish and define Comer’s hair McKnight used his product Happy Endings on the lengths. The multitasking styling and conditioning cream also adds a shot of shine, leaving Comer's locks as glossy looking as her glowing skin.
