Joe Biden Tests Negative For COVID-19

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has tested negative for COVID-19. On Friday, the former Vice President tweeted that neither he nor his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have the virus.

In the tweet, Biden reminded his followers to "wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash your hands."

Biden's negative test result comes just hours after President Donald Trump and the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. Trump confirmed the news with a tweet Friday morning. The President and Biden were in the same room on Tuesday for the first presidential debate and, though they were six feet apart and did not shake hands before or after the debate, the pair were on an indoor stage, speaking to each other, for 90 minutes.

Currently, the President is said to be experiencing cold-like symptoms. According to The New York Times, Trump seemed lethargic at a New Jersey fundraiser this Thursday. So far, the symptoms appear mild.

Biden tweeted out his support for his political rival, and wished him a speedy recovery. "Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery," he said. "We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family."

Though Trump's test result has been shared publicly, there reportedly has been no direct contact between the Biden campaign and the Trump administration on this issue. According to CNN, no one from the Trump campaign or the White House contacted the Biden team of possible exposure to the virus, despite COVID-19's highly contagious nature.

During Tuesday's debate, the President even mocked Biden for wearing protective face masks.

"I don't wear face masks like him," Trump said of Biden. "Every time you see him he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away ... and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen."

The Trumps must now quarantine in the White House until they fully recover. The couple's diagnosis came after White House advisor Hope Hicks, who is in frequent contact with the President, tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing symptoms. Many members of Trump's team have since tested negative, including Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
